Introduction

In accordance with state statutes and relevant association legislations, NCAA Division I student-athletes are now able to capitalize on their own name, image and likeness (NIL). UCLA Athletics is committed to student-athlete development in this space with its comprehensive NIL program, “Westwood Ascent”.

Designed to support UCLA student-athletes as they build their personal brand and maximize their NIL opportunities, Westwood Ascent focuses on three pillars – Education, Brand-Building and Monitoring and Disclosure.

UCLA's boosters play a key role in the success of the program. With the new NCAA Policy regarding NIL going into effect on July 1, The Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics, Martin Jarmond, has a letter to boosters regarding UCLA's new Name, Image and Likeness initiative.

UCLA Trademarks & Licensing

This office looks to promote, protect, and enhance the UCLA brand’s reputation by thoughtfully managing and controlling the use of the UCLA® brand name on consumer products and ensuring that “UCLA” appears only on quality products that are produced under fair, safe, and humane working conditions.

Professional Service Providers 

In accordance with California state law, every individual seeking to represent a UCLA student-athlete with Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) is required to notify the UCLA Compliance Office. Service providers can access the guidelines and application at the link below.

Education

UCLA Athletics has partnered with the UCLA Anderson School of Management (Anderson) and the Center for Media, Entertainment & Sports (MEMES) on a series of summer workshops available to all UCLA student-athletes to further their education on NIL best practices.

INFLCR & COMPASS

In response to the NCAA adopting the Name, Image and Likeness legislation, UCLA Athletics has partnered with both INFLCR and COMPASS. The two companies are at the forefront of the new NIL landscape and will serve as a valuable resource to UCLA student-athletes and staff.
